Wellington City Mission Social Supermarket x Whitecliffe fashion student volunteers
Nisa will be donating an ongoing stock of underwear essentials to The Wellington City Mission Social Supermarket 💛
In a shift from the traditional food parcel model, the Social Supermarket puts shopper experience and choice at its heart. Instead of being given a pre-selected food parcel, people are given the dignity to be able to choose what they actually need from a wide selection of food and essentials in a supermarket environment. They are allocated points at each shopping trip based on their personal situation, and they choose how to spend those points. Every item costs a number of points, though there are some items which are 0 points e.g. sanitary pads.
As our production team is incredibly busy with orders right now, we put a call out for volunteers to help sew up donation briefs. We had awesome first year Whitecliffe College School of Fashion students come in last week, and what a joy it was to have them. They came in two groups, and sewed up 226 briefs for the Social Supermarket! It was a good learning opportunity and so important for fashion students to come in and see the way things work.
Thanks so much to the Whitecliffe students - what an awesome effort - with a shout out to: Tia, Kyla ,Freja, Kanuka, Louis, Bryleigh,Ayla, Lily, Tia M, Maia, Helena, Keala, Lucy and the wonderful Gwyn who came in in her holidays to sew donation briefs.
