A whirlwind eight months has flown by!
Nisa, under founder Elisha Watson, was officially closed down in July 2023. At the eleventh hour, some former staff made a takeover bid and Elisha accepted. We were able to bring Nisa back to life as Version 2.0, with a new vision & business model, as well as having the employees as shareholders! How excellent it is to be able to provide employment for former refugees & also have them as part of the business ownership!

📖 This is the story...

📍 JULY 2023:
We wondered about taking over Nisa. Were we crazy? Could we make this happen? Yes to both?!? Thank you to Luke Walker
& McKenzie Rogers (Mallett Partners) and Hamish Mexted (Convex Accounting) for their vital advice and help with the business purchase, in such an incredibly short time frame. This was perhaps one of the quickest business acquisitions they've dealt with! 1 August 2023, new owners take over, and we had Nisa version 2.0!

📍 LATE JULY TO EARLY SEPTEMBER 2023:
It was all about the Pledge Me campaign to get Nisa going again:

A huge heartfelt thank you to the amazing Kat Jenkins, for guiding Pam Lowe, Hannah McHalick and Li Ling Ho through an intense process of planning & running a funding campaign! Thanks also to Anna Guenther & the team at PledgeMe for their support!

We went into the campaign with many people doubting that we could reach the $80k target that we had set and, frankly, we needed. Some thought it was too high, or maybe Nisa wasn't relevant.

Thank you to RNZ for the coverage on the Morning Report (https://lnkd.in/giZidHnb) and National News (https://lnkd.in/gmYhPc_F).

Less than 24 hours after the campaign started, pledges had reached our $80k target, much to our utter surprise & disbelief - pinch me! Many tears of joy were shed! We were so grateful to the community & supporters for this! (And still are)

The campaign closed on 10 September, and $165,093 had been pledged by 1,386 people! Double the target!! Many more happy tears were shed! We were so joyful, overwhelmed & thankful for all the support shown to the new Nisa. WOW. 💛

📍 OCTOBER 2023:
Business is back! We are so thankful to TVNZ Seven Sharp for their segment on NZ manufacturing & Nisa. A great way to show NZ the workshop and to talk about the Nisa story! 😊 Watch it online:

📍 2024:
Nisa will be launching our first underwire bra - a next step towards zero waste pattern making. It will be low waste on its own, or zerowaste if created as a set with a pair of briefs. This is part of Nisa Version 2.0's journey to design and manufacture zero waste products, so watch this space!!!
